Unofficial mobile port of the hit horror game

Poppy Playtime game is a free-to-play adventure game, developed by Lamba Studio Games for mobile. This is an unofficial mobile port of the hit survival horror experience from Mob Entertainment. With that said, this is a good remake that tries to recapture the original, optimizing it for mobile devices.

In Poppy Playtime game, you control the former employee who must explore the abandoned Playtime Co. toy factory. Equipped with the trusty GrabPack, you solve puzzles while escaping the monstrous Huggy Wuggy. Similar mobile games inspired by the Poppy Playtime franchise include Project Playtime and Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 - Unofficial.

Uncover the secrets of the toy store

Like the original, the mobile Poppy Playtime game also follows the same premise. You are a former employee tasked with returning to the abandoned toy factory after receiving a mysterious letter from a disappeared colleague. The toy factory, however, is filled with monsters. Among these creatures is the blue, long-legged entity only known as Huggy Wuggy. You have to complete levels while avoiding the monster on your tail.

The game features a good variety of puzzles. Using your GrabPack, a backpack with two extendable robot arms, you can reach for inaccessible switches or transfer electricity to power up machines. Unfortunately, this remake doesn’t faithfully convert the source material into mobile. It only allows you to experience a slice of the original, with the suspenseful cliffhanger also out of the picture.

It’s also worth noting that the controls are on point. By implementing the standard touchscreen control layout, players can jump right into the action. Apart from the incomplete adaptation, this version also unfortunately suffers from bugs. There are collision issues and instances where the assets do not load as they should. Lastly, expect several ads from this game, whether you complete a stage or die in the process.

More of a mobile demo

Overall, Poppy Playtime game feels more like a demo for a mobile port instead of a proper remake. While the premise and the visuals are pinned down well, it doesn’t cover the entire original game. By using an intuitive control setup and adopting the puzzles in the game, it only sets up players for disappointment since it doesn’t cover the entire Chapter One story.

PROS

  • Sticks to the original game premise
  • Features a good variety of puzzles

CONS

  • Doesn't cover the entire game
  • Suffers from a lot of bugs
